The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting adipocyte differentiation, containing lutonarin or saponarin； a method for inhibiting adipocyte differentiation using the composition； a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity, comprising an extract of barley sprouts containing lutonarin or saponarin or an fraction of the extract； a food composition for preventing or alleviating obesity； and a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition for preventing or treating obesity, containing lutonarin, saponarin, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. By using the composition of the present invention, adipocyte differentiation, which is the cause of obesity, is inhibited so the level of cholesterol contained in the generated adipocytes as well as the number of adipocytes can be reduced, thereby being able to be widely used in effective treatment for obesity.본 발명은 루토나린 또는 사포나린을 포함하는 지방세포로의 분화 억제용 조성물, 상기 조성물을 이용하여 지방세포로의 분화를 억제하는 방법, 루토나린 또는 사포나린이 함유된 새싹보리 추출물 또는 그의 분획물을 포함하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물, 비만의 예방 또는 개선용 식품 조성물, 루토나린, 사포나린 또는 그들의 약학적으로 허용되는 염을 포함하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물 및 식품 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 조성물을 이용하면, 비만의 원인이 되는 지방세포로의 분화를 억제하여 지방세포의 수를 감소시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 생성된 지방세포에 포함된 콜레스테롤의 함량을 감소시킬 수 있으므로, 효과적인 비만의 치료에 널리 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
