PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorizing material exerting excellent deodorizing performance on a sulfur-based malodor of methyl mercaptan, hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl disulfide or the like and maintaining the excellent deodorizing performance for a long period of time, and a method for producing the deodorizer.SOLUTION: In the deodorizing material in which a deodorizing agent adheres to synthetic fibers via a binder resin, the binder resin consisting of a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol resin with a saponification degree of 95.0-99.5%, a cross-linking agent, and a metal phthalocyanine complex adhere to at least some of the synthetic fibers.
