A surgical instrument having a handle 300, elongate shaft and an active electrode at the distal end of said shaft. The electrode is connected to a first wiring length 1702, which leads into the handle 300 to a connector, at which it connects to a second wiring length 1904 which leads through the handle 300 and out to an electrosurgical generator. The connector is located inside a dedicated chamber 1900 in the handle 300. There may be a return electrode, having its own wiring lengths 1704, 1906 and a connector between them, which is located inside a second chamber 1902 axially spaced from the first chamber 1900. The handle 300 may be of a clam-shell construction, such that when the two halves are snapped together the chambers 1900, 1902 are effectively sealed. Also claimed is a surgical instrument with rotatable shaft, wherein the wires from the distal electrode are wrapped at least 270° and preferably 450° around a proximal portion of the rotatable shaft.
