An apparatus for performing blood collection through a peripheral intravenous line is described herein. The device includes a introducer and a cannula, and is configured to advance the cannula through a distal intravenous line. A y-adapter with a large diameter port is configured to receive the cannula to position the cannula in fluid communication with the distal intravenous line.
