An oral device for improving airway patency comprises a base adapted to be held between a patients upper and lower teeth and a tongue-engaging member. The tongue- engaging member engages the tongue and displaces the tongue anteriorly when the base is held between the patients teeth. A vacuum is applied through the base and the tongue- engaging member in order to draw the soft palate against a posterior region of the tongue in order to stabilize the soft palate and open or clear the patients airway.Linvention porte sur un dispositif oral qui permet daméliorer la perméabilité des voies aériennes, lequel dispositif comprend une base apte à être tenue entre les dents supérieures et les dents inférieures dun patient, et un organe dappui sur la langue. On applique un vide à travers la base et lorgane dappui sur la langue afin de tirer le palais mou contre une zone postérieure de la langue, de manière à stabiliser le palais mou et à ouvrir ou dégager les voies aériennes du patient.
