#$%^&*AU2018201023A120181011.pdf#####SURGICAL STAPLING DEVICE WITH RELEASABLE KNIFE CARRIER ABSTRACT A surgical stapling device (10) comprising: an elongate body (14) defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal portion and a distal portion, the elongate body (14) including a pusher drive member (90) and a knife carrier pusher (70), the pusher drive member (90) having an inner surface defining a through bore having a tapered distal portion; a reload assembly (16) including a housing (26), a staple cartridge (34) supporting a plurality of staples (36), a pusher assembly (28), a knife carrier (30), and a knife (32), the pusher assembly (28) movably supported within the housing (26) between a retracted position and an advanced position to eject the plurality of staples (36) from the staple cartridge (34), the pusher assembly (28) having an inner surface defining a through bore, the inner surface having a proximal portion defining a counter bore, wherein the knife carrier (30) supports a knife (32) and includes first engagement structure, the knife carrier (30) having at least one detent; and the knife carrier pusher (70) including second engagement structure configured to releasably engage the first engagement structure of the knife carrier (30) to couple the knife carrier pusher (70) to the knife carrier (30), the first engagement structure being movable from a first position engaged with the second engagement structure to a second position disengaged from the second engagement structure; wherein when the surgical stapling device (10) is in a pre-fired state, the at least one detent is positioned within the counter bore of the pusher assembly (28), and when the knife carrier (70) is retracted after the surgical stapling device (10) has been actuated to eject the plurality of staples (36) and to dissect tissue, the detents are positioned to engage the tapered distal portion of the pusher drive member (90) to urge the fi
