PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a position and an orientation of a distal end portion of an insertion portion by providing two magnetic elements at the distal end portion without increasing a diameter of the insertion portion of an endoscope.

SOLUTION: Two magnetic elements 60 are provided at the distal end portion 14 of the insertion portion 12 of the endoscope 10 on a nonconcentric axis. A channel tube 41 which occupies the largest area in the distal end portion 14 is disposed eccentrically on one side relative to an axis center of the insertion portion 12. Two magnetic elements 60 and an illumination light emitting part 23 and an objective optical system 31 both of which are small buried articles are juxtaposed circumferentially in a semiperimeter part on the side opposite from the eccentric side where the channel tube 41 is disposed. At least one of the small buried articles 23, 31 is kept between two magnetic elements 60.
