A composite implant material comprising a bone cement matrix, a non-resorbable polymer, a bioactive glass filler and a triacrylate liquid. Preferably, the non-resorbable polymer is polyether etherketone (PEEK). Preferably, the matrix is poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) based bone cement. Most preferably, the bioactive glass is 45S5. The material may be made with the addition of an amphiphilic polymer promoter (most preferably, 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA-P, PHEMA)). The implant material may be a bone implant such as a craniofacial or maxillofacial bone implant. Preferably it is a jaw bone implant. Also claimed is a method of making a bone implant by mixing PMMA, PEEF, bioactive glass filler powders with triacrylate and liquid monomers. Also provided is a kit for making an artificial bone composite.
