FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to otorhinolaryngology, and can be used to diagnose maxillary sinus diseases and cysts. Proposed method for diagnosing maxillary sinuses of a patient comprises recording signals corresponding to two-dimensional distribution of intensity of light, passing through the tissue over the selected patients face portion with at least two selected wavelengths of the visible and/or near infrared regions, extending from a light applicator comprising light sources and arranged so that the selected patients face portion is located between light sources located in the oral cavity and a radiation intensity recording device. Thermovision image signal proportional to the two-dimensional distribution of intensity of infrared radiation over the selected patients face portion in the middle infrared wavelength range of 8–12 microns is recorded. Subsequent digital processing of the distribution of registered signals is carried out and a two-dimensional display of the output signal proportional to digital processing result is formed, and the image of the selected portion is additionally recorded at the same previously selected wavelengths of the visible and/or near infrared region with diagnostic lights switched off. Digital processing comprises pointwise division of the intensity signal in the thermovision image into a root-mean-square sum of signals corresponding to a two-dimensional distribution of the light intensity values of each wavelength over the selected patients face portion, and the light intensity values with diagnostic lights switched off are subtracted from said the light intensity values, and the resulting digital processing output is displayed as a two-dimensional distribution.
