[Problem] To provide a volatilizer which can make an evaporated volatile agent visible as smoke and which can make the smoke rise straight up like incense, without diffusing the smoke in the vicinity of a heating part. [Solution] This volatilizer for volatilizing a volatile agent by heating comprises: a volatile-agent holding body including a core material impregnated with the volatile agent and a device body having a supporting part that supports the volatile-agent holding body, and a heating body through which a current is passed and which heats the volatile agent. The device body has a shape such that when the volatile-agent retaining body is supported by the supporting part: an upper space is defined above the core material of the volatile-agent retaining body, the upper space permitting smoke produced by heating the volatile agent to rise upward a surrounding space is formed so as to surround the core material, the surrounding space being connected to the upper space and a lower space is formed below the core material, the lower space being connected to the surrounding space and having an open side.
