PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preserve the freshness of cut flowers for a long time without supplying water in the holding member and to improve the working efficiency after processing to selling cut flowers.
SOLUTION: The water-retaining implement 12 of the cut flower 1 includes: the water-retaining bag 22, which wraps the cut end 1a of the cut flower 1, with an opening at one side the water-retaining material 24, composing of fibriform or cotton-like virgin pulp, which is inserted in the water-retaining bag 22 and to which at least the cut end 1a of the cut flower 1 is inserted through the opening of the water-retaining bag 22 and the liquid 26 containing nutrition and bactericide which are absorbed by this water-retaining material. The virgin pulp is neutralized after being alkali-treated, so that the cellulose content of the pulp is 80% or more. The liquid 26 containing nutrition and bactericide is an aqueous liquid including glucose, magnesium nitrate and a preservative as the main ingredients. The opening of the water-retaining bag 22 of the water-retaining implement 12 is bound together to the extent that the stems of the cut flower 1 are not compressed.
