The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating obesity or fatty liver containing an extract of Raphanus sativus as an active component. The composition activates AMPK (5′ adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase) to inhibit C/EBP-α, C/EBP-δ, and PPAR-γ transcription factors involved in differentiation of progenitor fat cells into adipocytes and reduce the expression of adipose-associated proteins, thereby having an effect for preventing or treating obesity. In addition, the composition is confirmed to have an effect of preventing or treating fatty liver by inhibiting lipid synthesis in hepatocytes.본 발명은 흑무(Raphanussativus L. var niger) 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 비만 또는 지방간의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 상기 조성물이 AMPK(5' 아데노신 모노포스페이트-활성화 단백질 카이네이즈)를 활성화 시켜 전구지방세포에서 지방세포로의 분화에 관여하는 C/EBP-α, C/EBP-δ 및 PPAR-γ 전사인자를 억제하고, 지방 발생 관련 단백질의 발현을 감소시킴으로써 비만의 예방 또는 치료에 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 상기 조성물이 간세포에서의 지질 합성을 억제하여 지방간의 예방 또는 치료에 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.
