PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image photographing device capable of properly detecting start of emission of radiation by the device itself and capable of reducing power consumption in a reading process before photographing.SOLUTION: Control means 22 of a radiation image photographing device 1 repeats in alternate manner, before radiation image photographing, a leak data dleak reading process in which a reading circuit 17 is caused to perform reading operation under such a condition as an off voltage is applied to all scan line 5 from scan drive means 15 so that all switch means 8 come to be in off state, and an electric charge q leaked from a radiation detection element 7 through switch means 8 is converted to leak data dleak, and a reset process of each radiation detection element 7, so as to detect that emission of radiation has been started when the leak data dleak that has been read exceeds a threshold value dleak_th.
