Provided are microbiocidal compositions comprising reactive oxygen species (ROS) or comprising components that produce ROS. The components that produce ROS may be an enzyme such as lactoperoxidase, chloroperoxidase, bromoperoxidase or iodooxidase and its corresponding substrate. For example a composition may comprise potassium iodide, lactoperoxidase and glucose oxidase. The compositions may be used in in the treatment of microbial infections or in the control of microbial contamination. The compositions may be particularly useful in the treatment of mastitis.
