A bale drop detection mechanism (10) for use with a baler (14) having a rear aperture (38). The bale drop detection mechanism (10) including a bale chute (54) coupled to the rear aperture (38) of the baler (14), where the bale chute (54) includes an upper surface configured to support a bale (26) ejected from the rear aperture (38) thereon. The bale drop detection mechanism (10) also including a bracket (58) coupled to the rear aperture (38) of the baler (14), a support member (62) extending between and coupled to both the bale chute (54) and the bracket (58), and a controller (70) in operable communication with the bale chute (54) and configured to detect a bale drop event based at least in part on the level of force being applied to the upper surface of the bale chute (54).
