The present invention relates to a composition comprising an oriental melon seed extract as an active ingredient for preventing or treating diabetes, and more specifically, to a composition comprising an oriental melon seed extract and a roasted oriental melon seed extract as active ingredients for preventing or treating diabetes. According to the present invention, the oriental melon seed extract has an antidiabetic activity through a mechanism of inhibiting alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase activities. The antidiabetic activity can be improved when operating a process of roasting oriental melon seeds. Accordingly, the oriental melon seed extract of the present invention can be used as a material of a medicine or food for preventing, alleviating, and treating diabetes.본 발명은 참외 종자 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 당뇨병의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 보다 구체적으로 참외 종자의 추출물 또는 볶은 참외 종자의 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 당뇨병의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 참외 종자 추출물은 알파-글루코시다제(alpha-glucosidase) 및 알파-아밀라제(alpha-amylase)의 활성을 억제하는 기작을 통해 항당뇨 활성을 가지며, 이러한 항당뇨 활성은 참외 종자를 볶는 가공과정을 수행할 경우 더욱 증진시킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 발명의 참외 종자 추출물은 당뇨병의 예방, 개선 및 치료를 위한 치료제의 소재 및 식품 소재로 유용하게 사용할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
