A flange extender for use with an injection device is described. The flange extender includes first and second flange extender pieces and a locking mechanism to lock the first and second flange extender pieces to one another. In one embodiment, the locking mechanism includes each piece having a locking finger extending from the piece and an aperture adapted to receive the locking finger. The first and second flange extender pieces extend in a direction transverse to a main axis of the injection device to thereby provide a surface area for manual manipulation of the injection device during an injection.
