A surgical access device for use in minimally invasive surgery is provided which includes a plurality of reactive members of a specific binding pair releasably contained on a surface of the access device, the reactive members having an affinity for binding a cellular component of tissue cells and another affinity for binding complementary members of the specific binding pair.
