The invention relates to dredging apparatus 10 for harvesting shellfish 42 from the seabed 40. The dredge comprises an open fronted collecting aperture 12 and a rearward collecting chamber 14. The open fronted collecting aperture is provided with a primary sorter arrangement which prevents large debris over a certain threshold size from being collected in the dredge. The collecting chamber is also provided with a secondary sorter arrangement which releases small unwanted dredged items and small unwanted shellfish that are below a certain threshold size from the dredge. The primary sorter arrangement includes several bar members in an upper layer 26 which are spaced apart from one another and bar members in a lower layer 28 which are positioned between and below corresponding pairs of the bar members in the upper layer. A method of harvesting shellfish from the seabed utilizing the dredge is also provided.
