The instant disclosure relates to methods for treating skin, for example, methods for desquamation of the skin of the face. The methods use a two-step process of first treating the skin with an alkaline composition having a pH of at least 8 followed by a second step of treating the skin with an acidic composition having a pH of 5 of less. The acidic composition includes one or more a- and/or β-hydroxy acids, which react with the skin to cause desquamation and stimulate new skin cell growth. Treating the skin with the claimed alkaline compositions improves the efficacy of the treatment with the acidic composition while reducing skin irritation and discomfort.La présente invention concerne des procédés de traitement de la peau, par exemple, des procédés de desquamation de la peau du visage.
