The present disclosure relates to a drug delivery system and to a drug delivery device, the drug delivery device (20) comprising:- a receptacle (23) to accommodate a drug container (10), wherein the drug container (10) is provided with a container identification (52), the container identification (52) being at least indicative of a content of the drug container (10),- a container identification arrangement (50) configured to detect and/or to identify the container identification (52) when the drug container (10) is arranged in the receptacle (23),- a delivery device interface (24) configured to transmit uplink data (UL) to a communication device (60), wherein the uplink data (UL) contains at least the container identification (52) obtainable from the container identification arrangement (50) and wherein the delivery device interface (24) is configured to receive downlink data (DL) from the communication device (60) in return to the transmission of the uplink data (UL),- a drive mechanism (40) operably engageable with the drug container (10) and configured to expel or to dispense at least a dose of the drug from the drug container (10) on the basis of the downlink data (DL) received from the delivery device interface (24).
