Embodiments herein include coated medical devices and coatings having a salt group. Embodiments include a coated medical device comprising a substrate and a polymer layer disposed over the substrate. The polymer layer comprises a polymer and has an outer surface. The coated medical device further comprises groups of a plurality of salts bound to the polymer of the polymeric layer and disposed on an outer surface of the polymeric layer. The salt group may be a reaction product of the reactive group with an acid or a base. Embodiments include a method of manufacturing a medical device.
