A method for controlling a power plant that includes the steps of: monitoring an expected output level for the power plant during a current generating period; monitoring an actual output level for the power plant during the current generating period; determining an output shortfall, where the output shortfall is defined as the actual output level for the current generating period being less than the expected output level by a difference that exceeds a predetermined threshold; receiving a mitigating action given the output shortfall, wherein the mitigating action is a modification to a generating configuration of the power plant that has an expected effect of increasing the output shortfall; and graphically presenting the expected effect of the mitigating action to the output level on a display screen of a user device.
