A METHOD OF NUTRITIONALLY SUPPLEMENTING THE OVINE SPECIES WITH A FORMULATION THAT INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF INTRAMUSCULAR FAT AND OLEIC AND OMEGA-3 FATTY ACID CONCENTRATION IN SHEEP MEAT
A METHOD OF NUTRITIONALLY SUPPLEMENTING THE OVINE SPECIES WITH A FORMULATION THAT INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF INTRAMUSCULAR FAT AND OLEIC AND OMEGA-3 FATTY ACID CONCENTRATION IN SHEEP MEAT MOTTAINAI CARROT & OlVE FED LAMB This application relates to the invention of a method of supplementing the ovine species with a formulation including Vitamin A provided in the form of pro-Vitamin A carotenoid, oleic and/ or omega-3 fatty acids, wherein the formulation can be administered through dietary supplementation via the oral route. The invention is novel because it significantly increases the amount of intramuscular fat in the skeletal muscles of sheep and the concentration of omega-3 and/ or oleic fatty acids in the meat of sheep. The amount of intramuscular fat and its fatty acid composition plays a major role in eating quality attributes of red meat including sensory properties and health considerations, therefore the invention has commercial application. This invention contributes to improvements in the marketing of sheep meat globally by optimising its status as a "healthy" and "premium" protein alternative therefore it has economic significance.
