A herbal extract for inhibiting the growth of tumor described herein and the herbal extract is obtained by extracting a mixture of white castor and Formosanum elderberry with water and/or alcohol under a heating condition, in which a weight ratio of white castor is 1 to 99 pcnt and a weight ratio of Formosanum elderberry is 99 to 1 pcnt . The herbal extract is useful in preventing, treating, relieving, and improving the quality-of-life of patients suffering from cancer.
