The ultrasound imaging system includes a cine buffer in which image frames generated during the examination are stored. The processor is programmed to select one or more image frames from the cine buffer for approval and presentation to the operator for inclusion in patient records or other reports. The operator can accept the proposed image frame or select one or more other image frames from the cine buffer. The processor may select spaced image frames in the cine buffer for presentation. Alternatively, the processor compares the image frame in the cine buffer with one or more target image frames. An image frame similar to the target image frame is presented to the operator for confirmation. Alternatively, the processor may select an image frame that includes a particular feature or is similar to an image frame previously selected by the operator when performing a particular type of inspection.
