The method comprises: (a) blending a polymeric material with an antioxidant and a peroxide cross-linking agent; and (b) consolidating the polymeric material thereby forming a consolidated, antioxidant and cross-linking agent-blended polymeric material. The polymeric material is selected from ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene, and mixtures and blends thereof.
