An aeratable protective sleeve for plant stems is made available, which remains on the stem over years and which consists of an outer hollow profile (1) and an inner hollow profile (2) situated therein, which are in each case slit open on one longitudinal side and the walls of which have cutouts (3) which are arranged in such a manner that, on pulling up and/or pushing down and/or on rotating the hollow profiles (1, 2) in relation to one another, they are closed or opened by the remaining walls (4, 5) of the respectively other hollow profiles (1, 2), the outer hollow profile (1) bearing against the inner hollow profile (2) and surrounding the same completely or for the most part. The protective sleeve according to the invention serves in winter in the closed state for thermal insulation and additionally, i.e. also in spring, in summer and in autumn in the open state as protection against animal damage, e.g. by rabbits or other wild animals. <IMAGE>
