PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for regenerating simply inexpensively without using an acid or an alkali a used highly water-absorbent polymer recovered from e.g., used water-absorbent articles.SOLUTION: A used highly water-absorbent polymer is treated with an aqueous solution of a polyvalent metal salt such as calcium chloride, and the highly water-absorbent polymer treated with the aqueous solution of the polyvalent metal salt is treated with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt such as sodium chloride.
