The present invention is directed to an aqueous hair care composition for cleansing and refreshing the hair and the scalp comprising a 1,2-diol having a carbon chain with a length of more than 8 carbons in its molecule, hydrophobic particles, and a malodor protection material. The malodor protecting material may be an odor blocking material, an odor masking material or an odor neutralizing material or a combination thereof.
