The present invention concerns a new &alpha；-galactosidase with transgalactosylating activity isolated from Bifidobacterium bifidum. The &alpha；-galactosidase is capable of converting mellibiose to &alpha；-galactobiose disaccharides which may be incorporated into numerous food products or animal feeds for improving gut health by promoting the growth of bifidobacteria in the gut, and repressing the growth of the pathogenic microflora.본 발명은 비피도막테리움 비피덤으로부터 분리된 갈락토스 전이 활성을 가진 신규한 α-갈락토시다제에 관한 것이다. 상기 α-갈락토시다제는 멜리바이오스를 α-갈락토바이오스 이당류로 전환시킬 수 있으며, 상기 이당류는 장에서 비피도박테리아의 증식을 촉진시켜 장 건강을 향상시키고 병원성 균총의 증식을 억제하기 위해 수많은 식품 또는 동물 사료에 혼합할 수 있다.
