PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charged particle beam irradiation system in which by mounting an accelerator which accelerates charged particles on a rotating gantry, it is possible to reduce the fear of exposure by secondary radiation which is generated from the accelerator, while attaining space-saving.SOLUTION: A proton therapy system (a charged particle beam irradiation system) 1 includes: the accelerator 2 which accelerates charged particles and the gantry 3 on which the accelerator is mounted and which can rotate around the axis of rotation, wherein a shielding body 41 which shields radiation, is provided between a side 2a of the accelerator 2 and a treatment table 34 (an irradiated body). Thus, the shielding body 41 shields secondary radiation which is generated by a collision of the charged particles with components such as a magnetic pole or an electrode inside the accelerator 2. Consequently, the exposure of a patient by the secondary radiation which is generated from the accelerator 2 is prevented, while attaining space-saving in the whole of the system.COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT【課題】荷電粒子を加速させる加速器を回転ガントリーに取り付けることで、省スペース化を図りつつ、加速器から発生する2次的な放射線による被曝のおそれを低減することが可能な荷電粒子線照射システムを提供する。【解決手段】陽子線治療装置(荷電粒子線照射装置)1では、回転軸回りに回転可能なガントリー3に、荷電粒子を加速させる加速器2を取り付ける。加速器2の側面2aと治療台34(被照射体)との間に、放射線を遮蔽する遮蔽体41を配置する。これにより、加速器2内で荷電粒子が磁極や電極などの部品と衝突することで発生する2次的な放射線を、遮蔽体41によって遮蔽することができる。これらにより、システム全体の省スペース化を図りつつ、加速器2から発生する2次的な放射線による患者の被曝を防止する。【選択図】図3
