The lawn segment (10) has a basic layer (12) which consists of a mixture of compost (14), substrate (16) and seeds. To support the lawn segment, fibrous elements (22) made of hemp, coconut fibre or flax which are shaped like short twine cuttings, are inserted into the basic layer. The fibrous elements are biodegradable and prevent the lawn from falling apart only as long as it takes to peel the lawn segment from its original substratum. The lawn segment can then be positioned at the required area and the grass may form roots.
