PURPOSE: A composition containing ursodeoxycholic acid and ginkgo extract is provided to rise recognition memory and cholinergic nervous system function and to suppress amyloid plaque formation. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating Alzheimer's diseases contains ursodeoxycholic acid and ginkgo leaf extract as an active ingredient. The effect of the pharmaceutical composition is tested by Y maze test, novel object test, and passive avoidance test. The amyloid is detected at cortex and hippocampus of APPswe/PS1De9 dual-expressed mouse by immunohistochemistry.우루소데옥시콜린산 및 우루소데옥시콜린산과 은행잎 추출물을 함유하는 본 발명의 조성물은 치매환자에 있어서 인지기억능과 콜린성 신경계 기능을 유의의하게 항진시키고, 아밀로이드 플라크생성을 억제한다. 특히, 우루소데옥시콜린산과 은행잎 추출물을 포함하는 본 발명의 조성물은 각 약물의 단독투여군에 비하여 상승된 약리효과(synergisitc effect)를 나타낸다. 따라서 본 발명의 조성물을 사용하는 경우, 은행잎 추출물의 단독투여군에 비해서 투여용량을 감소시키는 것이 가능하기 때문에, 출혈부작용 등의 부작용을 줄일 수 있으며, 기존에 투여가 금기시되던 항응고제 투여환자나 항우울제 투여환자에게도 투여가 가능하다는 잇점을 갖는다.
