PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus and control method therefor capable of performing high-speed communication between a light source device and an electronic endoscope while suppressing enlargement and cost increase.SOLUTION: Illumination light is emitted from a light source of a light source device for supplying illumination light to a light guide of an electronic endoscope. A light modulation section controls the light source and modulates at least a part of the illumination light to be supplied from the light source device to the light guide into communication light being an optical signal on the basis of first communication information from the light source device with respect to the electronic endoscope. A photoelectric conversion section of the electronic endoscope receives at least the communication light, photoelectrically converts the light, and then outputs the first communication information.
