A method of, and an apparatus for, farming shrimp. The method comprises providing a tank 4, providing an initial enclosure 2 for post-larvae shrimp suspended in the tank, adding post-larvae shrimp to the initial enclosure, transferring the shrimp to the tank after a predetermined period of time or once the shrimp have reached a predetermined mean size, and harvesting the shrimp from the tank after a predetermined period of time or once the shrimp have reached a predetermined mean size. Preferably an intermediate enclosure 3 is also provided the shrimp moving from the initial enclosure to the intermediate enclosure to the tank. Preferably the initial and intermediate enclosures float in the tank. The apparatus may be provided with an aerator 7 and heating means 13. Brown and green algae may also be added to the tank.
