Arrangements described herein relate to systems and methods for managing gel on a subject. A system for managing gel (420) on a subject comprises a transducer (112) and a controller configured to control the transducer to move the gel to a first area (401) of the subject from a second area (413) of the subject. The system may comprise a sensor configured to output a gel sufficiency parameter for the gel on the subject. The system may further comprise robotics configured to move the transducer, wherein the controller is configured to control the transducer to move the gel by controlling the robotics to translate the transducer from the second area to the first area. The system may be used in conjunction with diagnostic ultrasound procedures, such as Transcranial Doppler, or with therapeutic ultrasound procedures.
