The present invention relates to a method for treating, delaying and/orpreventing renaldysfunction/failure in a mammal comprising administering a therapeuticallyeffectiveamount of a substance capable of inducing and/or enhancing Pax2 expression.Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of an effective dose of asubstancecapable of inducing and/or enhancing Pax2 expression in a mammal for thepreparationof a pharmaceutical composition for treating, preventing or delaying a renaldysfunction/failure in a mammal. Additionally, the present invention providesfor amethod for converting mesenchymal tissue into an epithelial tissue comprisingtheadministration of an effective amount of a substance capable of inducingand/orenhancing Pax2 expression in said mesenchyme and for a method for theregenerationof renal stem cells comprising the administration of an effective amount of asubstancecapable of inducing and/or enhancing Pax2 expression.
