SOLUTION: In an endoscope illumination optical system 10 which irradiates an object with the light from a light source through a plano-convex lens 15, one surface 15b out of optical functional surfaces 15a and 15b of the plano-convex lens 15 is a grained surface having mountains and valleys of uneven forms. The height difference between the mountains and the valleys of the uneven forms of the grained surface is made different for the central section A and the peripheral section B.
