A whitening protective coating material applied to whitened or bleached teeth. The whitening protective coating material comprises a malleable material, such as a wax or wax blend, mineral oil, vitamin E, a whitening agent, amorphous calcium phosphate or ACP, and a whitening agent, preferably carbamide peroxide. In one embodiment a material such as sodium hydroxide, sodium percarbonate or sodium perborate is used to create an exothermic reaction enhancing whitening. The whitening protective coating material covers the whitened or bleached tooth surface providing mild whitening and protecting the tooth from staining thereby improving and prolonging the whiteness of the teeth.
