An electric lawn mower has a fitting at the front right hand side to which a lawn trimmer is clipped. This can be unclipped and used to trim the edges of a lawn near to the lawn mower. The trimmer is powered by a rechargeable battery which is recharged when the trimmer is attached to the lawn mower and while the lawn mower is in use. The trimmer also operates while the lawn mower is in use, thereby extending the cutting width of the lawn mower. The recharging process is unaffected by the simultaneous operation of both machines.
