PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas adsorbent that is capable of exerting a sufficient gas adsorption property with respect to hazardous gas components in tobacco, and scarcely releases offensive odor components such as amine series impurities derived from a gas adsorbent per se and free hazardous components such as aromatic compounds that badly affect health.
SOLUTION: The gas adsorbent is such that (I) an average micropore radius of the gas adsorbent in the mercury porosimeter measurement is 330 &angst or higher, (II) a quantity of amine eluted from the gas adsorbent per unit mass is 10 &mu equivalent/g or less, and (III) a content of a monocyclic aromatic compound expressed by the formula (1) is 4 mg/g or less, wherein R represents a substitute selected from hydroxyl group, alkyl group and alkenyl group, and n is an integer of 1 to 6.
