By the sol-gel reaction of a metal alkoxide and / or a partially hydrolyzed condensate thereof in the presence of a terminal branched copolymer particle represented by the following general formula (1) having a number average molecular weight of 2.5 × 104 or less. A metal oxide porous body obtained by removing the terminal branched copolymer particles from the obtained organic-inorganic composite.下記一般式（１）で表される数平均分子量が２．５×１０４以下の末端分岐型共重合体粒子の存在下で、金属アルコキシドおよび／またはその部分加水分解縮合物のゾル－ゲル反応により得られた有機無機複合体から、前記末端分岐型共重合体粒子を除去することにより得られることを特徴とする金属酸化物多孔質体。
