The present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition comprising an extract of plants of Suaeda spp. as an active ingredient. More particularly, the present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition comprising an extract of plants of Suaeda spp. selected from the group consisting of Suaeda japonica, Suaeda glauca, Suaeda australis and Suaeda malacosperma, as an active ingredient. The extract of plants of Suaeda spp. as an active ingredient of the antimicrobial composition according to the present invention shows a strong antimicrobial effect as demonstrated by the examples described in the specification, and particularly has excellent heat stability and causes no degradation of antimicrobial activity even under an acidic condition of pH 2 and in the plasma.
