An extracorporeal blood cooling or heating circuit includes an intravenous catheter for withdrawing a patients blood coupled to a combined pump/heat exchanger device. One or more sensors are provided upstream and/or downstream of the pump/heat exchanger device for measuring pressure, temperature, fluid flow, blood oxygenation, and other parameters. A controller is operatively coupled to the pump/heat exchanger device and the one or more sensors to control the speed of the pump inside the pump/heat exchanger device and regulate the blood temperature by controlling the operation of the heat exchanger. The combined pump/heat exchanger device includes a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a pump portion defining a blood circuit inside the housing, and a heat exchanger portion contained within the housing for selectively heating or cooling the blood.Cette invention concerne un circuit extracorporel de refroidissement ou de chauffage du sang comprenant un cathéter intraveineux prélevant le sang du patient couplé à un système associant pompe et échangeur thermique. Un ou plusieurs capteurs sont prévus en amont et/ou en aval du système pompe/échangeur thermique et servent à mesurer la pression, la température, le débit du fluide, loxygénation du sang et dautres paramètres. Un système de commande est couplé de manière fonctionnelle au système pompe/échangeur thermique et auxdits capteurs pour contrôler la vitesse de la pompe à lintérieur du système pompe/échangeur thermique et réguler la température du sang en contrôlant le fonctionnement de léchangeur thermique. Le système pompe/échangeur thermique comprend un boîtier comportant au moins un port dadmission et au moins un port dévacuation, une partie pompe définissant un circuit sanguin à lintérieur du boîtier, et une partie échangeur thermique logée au sein du boîtier permettant de chauffer ou de refroidir le sang.
