The present invention relates to a novel use of timosaponin A-III and, more specifically, a pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing colitis including timosaponin A-III or a pharmaceutical acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition of the present invention can be used for preventing or treating acute colitis or chronic colitis and, more specifically, for preventing, slowing, improving or treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).본 발명은 티모사포닌 A-Ⅲ의 신규 용도에 관한 것으로서, 티모사포닌 A-Ⅲ 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용가능한 염을 유효성분으로 포함하는 대장염 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물을 제공한다. 본 발명에 따른 약학 조성물은 급성 대장염이나 만성 대장염을 예방 또는 치료하는데에 사용될 수 있고, 특히, 염증성 대장 질환(Inflammatory bowel disease； IBD) 또는 과민성 대장염 증후군(irritable bowel syndrome, IBS)등을 효과적으로 예방, 지연, 개선 또는 치료할 수 있다.
