The invention relates to a method for developing a liquidpharmaceutical composition to be applied to the skin as afoam and to a corresponding composition that can be foamedand that has at least one solvent, at least one activepharmaceutical ingredient, and at least one foaming agent.The foam volume and the foam stability are determinedaccording to a standardized SITA measuring method. Thefoaming agent, the solvent, and the active pharmaceuticalingredient are varied in regard to the chemical type and/orconcentration thereof until the foam thus produced by theSITA measuring method has a foam volume of at least 400 mland such foam stability that after a dwell time of up toten minutes the foam still has at least 50% of the foamvolume that originally existed immediately after the foamwas produced.
