The invention concerns an analytical test tape instrument having anexchangeabletest tape unit (14) which comprises a test tape (16) provided with a pluralityof testelements (18) to which body fluid can be applied, and a tape drive (12) thatcan becoupled with the test tape unit (14) to wind on the test tape (16) so that thetestelements (18) can be successively made available at an application site.Accordingto the invention it is proposed that the tape drive (12) has a direct currentmotor (26)and a reduction gear unit (28) arranged between the direct current motor (26)andthe test tape unit (14).
