The invention relates to a method for dyeing keratin fibres using: a) at least one ortho-diphenol derivative, b) at least one specific metal oxide, c) at least one alkalising agent, d) under photoirradiation； to a composition including the ingredients a) to c), and to the use thereof for dyeing keratin fibres. The invention also relates to ingredients a) to c) associated with photoirradiation, and to a kit having a plurality of compartments including the ingredients a) to c), and optionally one or more lamps as sources of d) photoirradiation. Said hair dyeing method provides better dyeing results, which are more uniform, chromatic, long-lasting and do not affect the cosmetic properties of the keratin fibres, using mainly natural ortho-diphenol extracts.
