PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize and simplify an artificial breathing device, in a breathing assistance device for a patient.SOLUTION: The breathing assistance device is for a patient breathing in a continuous cycle wherein each cycle is sectioned by at least one inspiration period and at least one expiration period. The breathing assistance device includes: a supply source of pressurized respiratory gas a gas transmission duct comprising a distal end coupled to the supply source and a proximal end coupled to the patient and a gas regulating valve 50 having at least one leakage orifice 531 interposed between the inside and the outside of the duct and an obstruction element 54 capable of varying the opening of the leakage orifice by means of the signal of a controller. The gas regulating valve is inserted into the proximal position in the duct, and the obstruction element enables a bidirectional gas flow through the leakage orifice in both of the expiration period and inspiration period.
